The Summer Intensive 2022 by Neo Academy is a three-day event run by professional performers, conductors, composers, and educators from NEO Academy and DC metro area. The event aims to provide the participants with hands-on experience in orchestral, chamber music performance, and composition. We will focus on technical and academic knowledge, mentorship, and friendship for the long-term development of your musical career. The event also aims to serve the DC concert-goer's community with quality performances from faculty and participants.

The Summer Intensive 2022 features the music of Grammy-winning composer Michael Patterson.

AUDITION REQUIREMENT

ORCHESTRAL MUSICIANS (STRINGS, WINDS, BRASS, HARP, PIANO, PERCUSSION)

Basic Requirements:

Ages: 15-30

Level: Advanced

Typically, 5-10+ years of experience on the instrument

Ability to read all key signatures

Ability to read in all clefs called for on instrument

Ability to sight-read and assimilate quickly

Ability to learn and prepare parts quickly in a short amount of time 

Orchestral Track Video Submission Instructions:

1.    Submit a link or links (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) to two contrasting style solos (with or without accompaniment), between 5-10 minutes in total (example: partial works are acceptable to keep within the time limit but should show the most contrasting sections). Etudes are acceptable if needed.

 Include: 

-       Your name with the file and on the video or video description,

-       All names of pieces, movements, measure numbers or sections (if only doing part of it)

-       Composers

Ensure all pertinent parts are visible with the instrument (hands, arms, head, eyes, etc.).

Example of link name:

-       YourName_Age_Video 1/2

-       YourName_Age_Video 2/2

2.    Submit one orchestral excerpt of your choice, not to exceed 3-5 minutes in length.

3.    Submit either a 1-page resume or short essay (up to 500 words) of your playing experience and goals in PDF or Word Format.

If auditioning for multiple and different instruments (except percussion), please submit a separate audition for each instrument.


Chamber Music Track Submission Instructions:

(For duos, trios, quartets, etc., with instruments listed above. Selected chamber groups will also be orchestral musicians.)

1.    Submit a link(s) (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) to two complete contrasting chamber music style pieces or movements between 7-15 minutes These pieces should also be performance ready to be considered for masterclasses and the student chamber music concert.

Include: 

-       Your group name with the file and on the video or video description,

-       All names of pieces, movements, measure numbers or sections (if only doing part of it), and 

-       Composers with your submissions. 

Ensure all pertinent parts are visible with the instrument (hands, arms, head, eyes, etc.).

2.    Submit either a 1-page resume or short essay (up to 500 words) of each player’s experience and goals in PDF or Word Format.

For pianists

As there is a limited seat for pianists in the orchestra, pianists must submit through the chamber music track, which means submit link(s) to your videos with your chamber group to be considered for the student chamber music concert and the orchestra concert. Please follow the instruction for the chamber music track.



COMPOSERS, COMPOSITION STUDENTS


1.    Submit a link or links (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) to samples of your music (score and audio).

Include: 

-       Your name with the file and on the audio or audio description,

-       All names of pieces and movements.

2.    Submit either a 1-page resume or short essay (up to 500 words) of each composer/student’s experience and goals in PDF or Word Format.
